Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to my Frequently Asked Questions page!  On this page, I'll attempt to answer as many of your questions about my services as possible.  If you have more questions after reading this page, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Q: What is copywriting?

A: Copywriting (what I do) is using written words to persuade people to take a specific action. It is using printed words to promote, sell, market, or advertise a product. In short, it is salesmanship in print. Copyrighting (what lawyers do) is registering patents, intellectual property, and brand logos for legal protection.

Q: What do copywriters do?

A: A great copywriter can be a huge benefit to your business. Copywriters know how to understand your business's objectives, define your company's messaging, build your brand, and engage your audience in a memorable way.  They also know how to be clear and concise in their writing. Often, a good copywriter can give your business the boost it needs to go from zero sales to making multi-thousands or millions of dollars a year. This is the case whether you are creating a sales letter, an email sequence, a display advertisement, or any other kind marketing messaging.

Q: How can a copywriter help my business?

A: When you're running a business, there are so many elements you need to juggle. It can be difficult to keep up with it all. With all the other business elements you're juggling, you probably don't want to spend hours of your time getting the sales messaging right. Plus, if you've never written sales messaging before, how will you know if your writing is compelling, clear, and succinct enough to engage your audience and help you reach your sales goals? If you want to have a better chance of saving time and meeting your sales goals, you'll be much better off hiring a professional copywriter like me.

Q: What’s the difference between copywriting and content writing?

A: Content writing is using written words to build awareness, create interest, and educate people about a brand. Copywriting is using written words to persuade people to take action (example: buying a product or donating to a charitable cause).

Q: What copywriting services do you offer?

Q: How long will it take you to write my copy?

A: It depends. Every project is different, so the price can change based on what each project needs. Some of the factors that can influence the prices of my services include how complex the project is, how quickly you want it back, my workload, and how quickly you can give me the information I need to get the project done. In most cases, I'll try to get projects back to you within 3-5 days, but the turnaround time may be longer if the project turns out to be more complex.

Q: What if I want to change or cancel a project?

A: I can do reasonable changes and revisions for you based on the parameters we discuss. However, if you request significant changes to a project, we'll have to reassess how much time and money it will take for me to complete it. If you have to cancel a project after I've already started working on it, I'll charge a 50% kill fee.

Q: How available are you?

A: I usually try to work on 2-4 projects per week, but sometimes I can squeeze in new clients. You'll have to reach out to me as projects come up in order to find out more details about my availability.  If I'm not available for you though, I can recommend other copywriting friends of mine who can help you out.

Q: What information do you need from me?

A: Honestly, the more information you can give me, the better. Copywriting requires a lot of research. Any information you can give me about your company, products and services, brand voice, or desired style of writing would be super helpful. We can work most of this out when I talk to you on our discovery call.

Q: Will I own copyright to the work you do for me?

A: Yes. Once the project is finished and you've paid me in full, you'll own 100% of the rights to the messages I've written for you (including any legal liabilities that come with it). I will ask that you grant me the right to showcase the sample in my portfolio though.

Q: How do I brief a copywriter?

A: We'll discuss your needs over a Zoom call, and I'll send you a form to fill out. This form will ask you questions about your company, its goals and objectives, your products and services, and your customer's needs. I may also send you emails or phone calls as the project progresses to get all the details I need to do great work.

Q: I feel like writing the copy by myself would be cheaper. Is this a good idea?

A: You could try that, but your results might not be as good. I've been studying strategic communication, copywriting, marketing, and advertising for a few years. I've also been studying the structure of storytelling since 2010. This experience has taught me how to use compelling words to capture an audience's attention and persuade them to take action. Wouldn't you prefer to save time for more important things by hiring a professional to write your copy for you?

Q: Will you write a free sample for me?

A: Sorry, I don't do free samples.  I have a family to support.  If you're wondering what my writing style is like, check out my portfolio page

Q: Do you require a deposit?

A: If I'm working with you for the first time, I will ask you to pay a 50% deposit at the start of a new project, with the remaining balance due at the project's completion.  However, once I've worked with you a few times, I won't ask for payment until the project is done.

Q: What is your lead time?

A: I'd prefer to have 1-2 weeks of prior notice before I start working on a new project, but sometimes I can squeeze in new projects on a shorter notice. You'll have to reach out to me in person for more information on this question, as my schedule can change at any time.

Q: What are your Terms of Business?

A: You can find my terms of business here

Q: I want to work with you. What do I do now?

A: Contact me at [email protected]. We can discuss the details of your project and decide if working together is a good fit for both of us.
